With 2860 registered participants, of which 1145
are transplanted athletes, it is wonderful to see
that the commitment to the Games is at its highest
ever. I’d like to pay tribute to the Transplant Team
Managers and their assistants, for the diligent
planning they do to ensure they prepare their
teams to access and enjoy the Games.
There are a record 58 teams participating in the
Sheffield Games and without Team Managers,
this multi-sport event (on the scale of the 2026
Commonwealth Games in Glasgow) could not
happen. We are particularly pleased to welcome
the new Sheffield Children’s Team and the Jubilee
Scotland Hearts Team to the family and wish them
well on this their inaugural journey!
Sheffield’s reputation as having a plethora of great
sports facilities is a benefit to the athletes, but
equally, we are pleased to see that all accredited
Games participants and volunteers will be able to
navigate the city by using the tram and bus service
on a complimentary basis, thanks to TravelMaster.
This will ensure a much greener Games, stimulate
conversations with members of the public using the
tram and buses, but also reduce the headache of
car parking!
