PETER GRIFFIN AWARD
AND NOMINATIONS
The award is made to an individual(s) who have
made a significant contribution to their transplant
community linked to the charity’s aims and objectives
including the British Transplant Games. This
individual(s) could be a transplanted athlete, but
we know there are so many people that support
transplantation and organ donation, that the award
is relevant to the entire transplant family.
Peter John Anthony Griffin was a transplant surgeon
at Cardiff Royal Infirmary. He was born on 19 July
1946 and studied medicine in Cardiff, gaining his
MB BCh in 1970.
He was a house surgeon at Musgrove Park Hospital,
Taunton, and a senior house officer in the accident
department at Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford.
He then became a surgical registrar in Cardiff and
was later a specialist there in transplant surgery.
Before Peter passed in 2009, he had played an
enormous role in the development of the Transplant
Games in Britain and in developing the World
Transplant Games Federation.
